PASTORAL CARE IN THE CIRCUIT
Well, in the newspaper industry, August is silly season – there is little or no news to report because everyone goes away on holiday. This usually applies at the circuit level too, but not this year! We all went off for a couple of weeks holiday ready for a new connexional year with the changes in leadership fixed (as reported last month) and when we got back everything had been thrown back in the melting pot!!!! Our friends in the Worksop circuit had been offered the services of a part time MLA and found themselves with a “quarter of a minister” surplus to their requirements – would we like him? “Yes please!” said the leadership team, “Yes please!” said Clowne and Barlborough (who will be the ones affected by his arrival – being next to the Worksop circuit geographically), and “Yes” said the circuit meeting last night!
So now we have a circuit team of Peter who will have pastoral care of Bolsover, Hillstown and Duckmanton, Mark who will have Staveley, Inkersall, Barrow Hill and with Helen’s assistance Brimington, Brimington Common and New Brimington and then we welcome back (a quarter of) Geoff Fisher to our circuit to look after Clowne and Barlborough.
Another change that we have to make is in the position of the circuit treasurer. Nick Cutts has done the job so admirably for a number of years but now feels unable to continue in this role. Nick has been replaced by Sarah Mount who is doing the treasurers job for both the circuit and Bolsover – for the time being at least! Church treasurers please note that your accounts will need to be ready to be sent to the auditor by September 26.
BRIMINGTON OFFICE
Helen will be working from an office in Brimington church, but because of security problems in the area, you will need to make an appointment to gain access. The office phone number is 01246 202167 and there is an answering service when Helen is out.
COMMUNITY BIBLE STUDY
An invitation for you to come along and study God’s word. There have been regular bible study meetings in Bolsover for many years, and if you feel that you would like to join in the study, September 11 is a very good date to start…. The group will be starting a new session on that date studying the words of Matthew’s Gospel. For more information please contact Margaret Rowley (tel: 825877) or Peter Soar (824161)
CHRISTIAN SERVICE
Could you occasionally act as an escort to a disabled person? The main service is to push a wheelchair (usually on level ground). Travel would be free to various shopping centres and other day outings.
You would be making life better for someone, and find yourself richly blessed.
Further details from Sister Elizabeth (telephone 01909 720403) on behalf of Community Transport.
BRIMINGTON COMMON METHODIST CHURCH
We would like to thank our friends within the circuit who supported our Open Day (after the refurbishment) on the weekend of 19/20 July.
We thank you for your encouragement and prayers as we stand on the threshold of new beginnings for our church. What a delight it was to see you all packed into our pews on the Sunday evening – everyone together giving the praise and glory to God. Special thanks to Peter and Mark for all their encouragement along the way.
On Sunday 28 September we shall be celebrating “Operation Reap with Joy” services at 10.15 am with Helen Shallow (Family service) and at 6.00 pm with Eric Vaughan. Harvest celebrations continue on Monday 29 September when the Harvest Supper will have entertainment and fun with the “Cock & Magpie Morris Dancers”. Please phone 231622 if you would like to attend this supper.
CELEBRATION CHOIR
The Sheffield Celebration Choir will be in concert at Clowne on Saturday 27 September. The concert starts at 7.00 pm. Invitation tickets are now available – there is no charge, but a collection will be taken for church funds.
METHODIST HOMES
2003 is Methodist Homes Diamond Jubilee, a very important year for us. We are determined that something tangible will be accomplished by our Jubilee celebrations. We want to extend our activity by developing schemes of care for people with dementia in their own homes. We believe that for some, the opportunity of receiving care at home will delay, or even prevent, the need for a move into residential care, with all the upheaval that this can create. By intervening at home, we want to help the individual to stay put, partly by providing direct personal care, and partly by providing respite for the primary carer. This of course will cost, and all our Jubilee charitable income will be directed towards making this project happen.
Jubilee events include A Charity Ball on 29 November at Pride Park in Derby, a Memory Wall for those we love, Team 43 a group sharing special anniversaries with us this year and our Forget Me Not Club an exceptional group of people supporting our work. A fundraising pack for your church is also available.
Collection envelopes for this year’s MHA Sunday are being distributed to our churches. Please ensure that they are used and that we can make a contribution towards the important work of MHA.
