Our Vision
Is to Aspire … to Inspire… a Desire… in JESUS!
March 2004 No 33
A short newsletter this month - although there is a lot happening in the next few weeks the last month has been the usual winter “quiet time” in the circuit. We are now in the season of Lent when our thoughts turn to the time in the wilderness – when Jesus was tempted and tried – and also when the church today is tempted and tried. With opinion polls showing that less than half of the population of this country believe in God – where are we going?
It is time that we show our neighbours that we don’t just belong to the local social club but that we have a faith and a way of life with God at it’s centre that is worth knowing and following - and to show by our actions that the love of Jesus is for everyone.
BRIMINGTON PRAISE
The Celebration Choir are leading a Praise Evening at Brimington Methodist Church on Saturday, 27th March at 7.00 p.m. Entrance is by Free Ticket only - these will be available from Jean Fisher (620908) from 1st March. There will be a retiring collection and, after expenses, the remainder will be divided between Blubell Wood Hospice and an orphanage we support in the Ukraine. A warm welcome to all to join us in praising God.
BLUEBELL WOOD CHILDREN’S HOSPICE
The raising of funds to build the hospice has been close to many of our circuit churches and as many of you will have heard in the local news bulletins on radio, tv and the press, the site of the Bluebell Wood hospice was rejected by Doncaster planning authority after many months of hard work. (Why they couldn’t point out their objections earlier no one will ever understand!). But to put our minds at rest, we have heard from the fund-raising team that they WILL be building somewhere in South Yorkshire this year! They are presently looking at a number of alternative sites and this time we hope that planning officers will tell them of any objections (trees or otherwise) at a very early stage in the negotiations.
JOHN HARDWICK AND HIS BAND
John is a songwriter, worship leader and children’s evangelist. He is a regular performer at Spring Harvest and Easter People, and will be coming to Woodseats Methodist Church in Sheffield on Saturday, 20th March. The day’s events include an “All age praise party” at 4.30 and a “Night of Variety” at 7.00 p.m.
I’m afraid we have no other details (prices etc) but the invitation is to bring a group of young people from our churches. If you want more details please phone Glyn Jones – 0114 281 8579.
DUCKMANTON
The folk at Duckmanton have had a very generous donation of an organ – for which they are very grateful.
To celebrate the gift and to dedicate the instrument to God’s work, they will be holding a musical evening on Saturday 20 March at 7.00 pm. Alan Mason will be playing the organ and Revd Peter Cross will take his seat at the piano whilst Mrs June Lidgate will recite some of her own poems.
Admission to the evening will be free but there will be a collection for church funds.
You will be welcome and the Duckmanton folk will be pleased to see you.
FRUSTRATION
Ring them all..
Ring them all..
Doctors and nurses,
Home helps and carers.
Ring them all..
Ring them all..
They’ll come if you
Call and call and call,
Shoppers and coppers,
Welfarers and sharers.
Ring them all..
Ring them all..
Ring them again and again…
… and again and again
They’ll know you’re in pain
May think you’re insane
Never give in
To do so is a sin
Be patient and kind
They’re human too
Have so much to do,
May need help..
… more than you!
Bless them all
Bless them all.
Sister Elizabeth
IN DEBT TO C S LEWIS
… is the title of a book by Patricia Batstone. It started life as an academic thesis and grew to a 240 page book…
Many letters have been written concerning the work of C S Lewis over the years, and this book is a distillation of the many reports and ideas sent in to various newspapers – both for and against the ideas portrayed in his books. The majority started from a visit to a symposium in America to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the death of C S Lewis and the stories of many of the attendees.
It is a book to read and also one to open and pick a passage at random – it will be thought provoking either way.
Sister Elizabeth has been in contact with the author recently, and has been sent a box of the books to sell.. If you would like to buy a copy for £3 (the cover price is £8.95) please contact her (01909 720403) direct.
