Our Vision

Is to Aspire … to Inspire… a Desire… in JESUS!

The Newsletter of the Bolsover and Staveley Circuit

June 2004                                         No 36

Prepare to say a sad or fond goodbye
Even though some of us may want to cry,
To Peter, and Pauline his very capable wife
Events have come for them to seek a new life,
Regrets, there may or may not be a few.

Always at the ready to do their work
Never ones to miss something or shirk
Dedicated they both are in doing God's work

Prepare to say goodbye then christian folk
As they go to take up another yoke,
Using God as their protector and guide
Looking ahead with faith and hope, not pride.
I pray for their continuing good life
Never knowing any hardship or strife
Everyone, let's pray for Peter, and Pauline his wife.

EASTER OFFERING
The Reception service for this year’s Easter Offerings on behalf of Network funds took place at Staveley on 2 May.  The speaker was Miss Margaret Addicott who spoke about her work in India, particularly about her time spent as superintendant of the Arulgam Hospice caring for people suffering from HIV/Aids.
The total amount raised for Network World Church fund was £650.72 – Thank you to everyone concerned.

Thus does the world forget You, its Creator, and falls in love with what You have created instead of with You.

Duckmanton Flower Festival
The weekend of 12/13 June has been chosen by Duckmanton as the time for their church to be decorated with flowers.  Please come along on the Saturday when the church is open from 9.30 am until 6.00 pm and enjoy a cream tea (served all day) and again on Sunday when the church is open from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm The finale to the weekend will be a Flower Service led by Mr Richard Lindsey at the usual time - 6.00 pm.

Joy is the flag you fly when the Prince of Peace is in residence within your heart.

District Network
The Summer District Day for Women’s Network will be held at Greenhill Methodist Church on 9 June.  Proceedings start at 3.30 pm with a business meeting with Connexional Update.  This will be followed by a picnic tea, then at 6.45 pm the evening meeting speaker is Irene Sayer (The connexional network president).

There is no better opportunity to receive more than to be thankful for what you already have.

Christian Aid
The collection at the circuit service led by Revd David Halstead at Bolsover last month realised £251.57 for Christian Aid Funds – Thank You.

Measure not God's love and favour by your own feeling.  The sun shines as clearly in the darkest day as it does in the brightest.  The difference is not in the sun, but in some clouds which hinder the manifestation of the light thereof.

The Methodist Prayer Handbook for 2004-2005
I have received advance notification for the new prayer handbook.  It will be available in August priced £2.  However if we can get a bulk order together they will cost £1.75 each – so if you would like a personal copy please send your order to the circuit office before Friday 16 July.  There will be a copy ordered for each of our pulpits as usual.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.  We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values.  We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.  We've learned how to make a living but not a life.  We've added years to life, not life to years.

Circuit DIARY
Meetings and Other Church Events for the forthcoming months.

To have your meeting/event included in this listing – Please leave me a message at the circuit office – 01246 470859. I would rather hear the same message many times than miss it because everyone leaves it to someone else! Then, meeting over, how about a report to tell others what they have missed!  The last two or three months have apparently been barren in the circuit – the newsletter has had very little local news contributed (but my thanks to those who did!) - David

We always hear the thing we listen for, and our character determines what we listen for.  When Jesus Christ alters our character, he gives us the power to hear as he hears.
