The Newsletter of the Bolsover and Staveley Circuit

O THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGING
As you read this newsletter, we will probably be saying our farewells to the superintendent, Peter Cross. Peter has been with us for 8 years and has many friends in the circuit, so it is with a degree of sadness that we say “bon voyage” and wish him, Pauline and the boys all good wishes in their new location in Pickering (holidays in Scarborough will have a stop off in future?). At the same time we look forward to welcoming Gillian Robertson to her stay at the Bolsover manse – she can hardly have a more challenging tenure than Peter with the shake-up of the circuit that he has been through. Our prayers are with them both in their challenging ministries.
Also moving house is our circuit lay worker Nel Shallow. Husband Jim is leaving his job as bookshop manager at Cliff College, so they are moving “off-campus” to Grindleford. Good wishes in your new home. Good wishes too to Graham and Barbara Cutts who have moved to Bolsover recently.
BLACKPOOL TOWER
That famous holiday destination with the tall thing pointing up to the (grey and wet) skies was the location of this year’s MAYC Breakout weekend.
Ten over 13s from Clowne Youth Club maintained their tradition by setting off on Friday 9 July in a hired “big car” to enjoy a time at the seaside. Mark Coles has friends in the area, so we were able to arrange a stay on the floor at Anchorsholme church – just a 10 minute tram ride away from the Winter Gardens where everything happened (unlike Clare Renshaw and their group, who ended up staying in Preston). As always the weekend was a great time of fellowship and enjoyment and by the time we rolled back on the Sunday afternoon we were a tired but happy group of revellers – Roll on next year!
Next year MAYC is 60 years old. The 6T event will be at Cliff College in July – so come on youth of this circuit let’s make a date to be there. Oggy, oggy, oggy!!!!

OUR CALLING - on the agenda
From Ilminster, Dorset, - We've begun to put all our church council agenda items under one or other of the OC headings. It helps us to see the main purpose for an item: for example, is a coffee morning Service or Evangelism? It also points up the balance of what we do, and draws attention to any gaps.
Training for Church Stewards and those considering becoming stewards.

As this is a district event, publicity will be going round the district about it but I would like to really encourage all our stewards to take advantage of it. It will be free and it will be relevant to those who are new to the job or even those who have been in it for some time.

WORSHIP - with afternoon tea
From Wyson, Shropshire South
We (a congregation of about 15) held our first Tea Worship in June. With 10 visiting children, we had a total of 50 adults and 20 children for an informal afternoon including the main elements of worship, but with the sermon on a menu card, songs about love, craft work, favourite Songs of Fellowship, 'prayer hands' and tea-lights - and, of course, tea. Several tables had 3 generations together. PS: We've employed a youth worker once a week to run a club for 4-12 yr olds
This is a story about four people named
Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and
Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it,
but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it,
But Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
