Our VisionIs to Aspire … to Inspire… a Desire… in JESUS! The Newsletter of the Bolsover and Staveley CircuitNovember 2005 No 51There are exciting happenings within our churches in this Circuit. Various items are shared within this issue of Our Vision, but there are others which hopefully will be brought to you in future issues. At Brimington Common a holiday club ran over half term and this received a very positive response, members at Bolsover joined with the United Reformed Church in Carr Vale for a children’s activity day within the same week and Alpha continues strongly within the fellowship at Bolsover. BRIMINGTON’S ‘HEALING MINISTRY’ Our journey began when members of the church attended Easter People and shared in the ministry of Peter and Rita Edwards. Many people were greatly touched and encouraged by their ministry and as a result Peter and Rita were invited to speak at our Family Weekend in March. Over two days they shared with us, teaching from Scripture and from their own experiences of healing. A few weeks later members of the Leadership Team attended a healing service in Sheffield led by Peter and Rita. This was a very moving and enriching experience, further fuelling our thinking about a healing ministry at Brimington. Where are we now? In November those members of Brimington Methodist who are interested in establishing a healing ministry at the church are attending a special training evening led by Mark and myself. A commissioning service is planned for early in 2006, identifying those committed to a healing team, and opportunities for healing prayer will be included in services throughout the coming months. Healing is a fundamental part of the Gospel accounts and the activities of the early church recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. As the Body of Christ, by whose stripes we are healed and by whose wounds we are made whole, it is a part of our calling as His disciples to be open to God’s continuing work of healing. Our healing prayers will be offered to those who are physically ill, by His stripes we are healed, and for those who are emotionally suffering, by His wounds we are made whole. This dual ministry of healing and wholeness is very important and reflects the fullness of Peace promised in the Scriptures. Nel Shallow BOLSOVER’S LADIES WEEKEND As well as good fun, food, fellowship, games, competitions, swimming, saunas, walking and cycling, we were blessed with excellent spiritual food presented by Joyce Bromley. The theme of the weekend was based on the scripture from Matthew’s Gospel where Peter was encouraged to get out of the boat and keep his eyes fixed on Jesus! After quiet reflection and time spent on our own with the Lord, we were given questions to discuss in small groups. The greatest challenges for all of us, were questions to help us identify, our comfort zones, our fears, our calling, our storms in life and how we must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus to overcome these. Opportunities to pray together regarding these issues were helpful and reassuring. On Sunday morning we all enjoyed the service in the small church on site, and returned home safely and blessed knowing next years weekend was already booked!! Praise God for His provision! Margaret Rowley NETWORK TOGETHERCOMBE FAYRE I’ve added a forth “E” to the Network Logo as well as Encouraging, Enabling and Equipping, in Staveley we added Enthusiasm for without it we would have stayed at home in the warm. But we didn’t do that, we braved the elements and “came together” for our annual event. Our Superintendent Minister was our special Guest. She judged our competition and spoke to us. We are grateful for her for coming to share with us. We were entertained by Grace and Gwen with piano duets and Muriel and Joy added to our list of favourite things as they sang to us. Then it was time for us to have our refreshments, buy goodies from the stalls and introduce ourselves to each other as we tried to find out who had lived in Clowne all their life, who took a size three in shoes etc.. All too soon it was time for the results of our competition and epilogue and to find out what the weather was like outside. By this time it was fit to turn the dog out and we returned home a little drier. We raised a total of £128.20. Rita Sawyer SAMARITAN’S PURSE We are getting near to the time of the giving and receiving of presents. We realize the gift that we have received of the Child born to be King. With this in mind, we have been thinking of the children who will not receive any gifts at all. So we at Staveley, like a lot more people, have been filling our shoeboxes with all sorts of little gifts. The result of this, I am delighted to say, is that we have sent 39 boxes and donations amounting to £146.00 to Samaritan’s Purse. We shall be able to visualize the smiles on children’s faces and we shall be glad. Staveley are holding a Christmas Fayre on Saturday 12th November starting at 11:00am. Brimington Common have two events within the next few weeks: “FAIR TRADE” How do you view this? – Does it matter to you? – Do you know anything about it? At Brimington Common we have invited Mrs Tanya Noon from the Midlands Co-op Society to speak to us on this important issue. She will explain how it works – how the Co-op is involved- and (hopefully) bring along samples of products. You are all invited to join us for this event on Monday 21st November at 7:30pm. Christmas Coffee Morning at Brimington Common on Saturday 3rd December 10:00am to 11:30am. Home baked mince pies and home baked stall plus fancy goods and Christmas decorations etc.. All welcome.
