PRAY WITHOUT CEASING
Pray Without Ceasing is an initiative of the Methodist Church’s Young People who have called on the whole church to promote a year of non-stop prayer.  It was launched at The Methodist Conference at the end of June 2005 and will rune until the end of August 2006.  The Methodist Districts (33 in Great Britain) are being encouraged to organise continuous prayer events for a week or fortnight within the fourteen month period.

The aims of Pray Without Ceasing are

*

To encourage continuous prayer

*

To affirm prayer that is already happening

*

To open new channels of prayer and encourage people to try out new approaches to prayer

*

To be inclusive – of age, gender, culture, theology…..etc

*

To have a clear link to the Priorities of The Methodist Church

The Sheffield District’s contribution started on Friday 26th May, with Bolsover & Staveley Circuit being asked to pray for the twelve hours from midnight on 6th June through to noon on Wednesday 7th June.  It has been decided to split the time into fifteen minute slots from midnight to eleven o’clock with people praying within their own homes.  There will be a finale at Staveley from 11:00am to noon on Wednesday 7th June where all are invited.  Please bring a packed lunch, drinks will be provided and we will fellowship afterwards.  You have responded magnificently with over eighty different people signing up and many choosing to pray for more than fifteen minutes.  If you have not responded, may we encourage you to join with us, to pray with us at anytime during these hours, uniting us as one, as a body in talking and listening to our God.

Many are asking what to pray for.  The idea is to call the Church to pray, to be in conversation with our God to celebrate in His love for us and to bring issues that concern us.  The aims of Pray Without Ceasing state that we are to have a clear link with the Priorities of the Methodist Church.  These are

In partnership with others wherever possible, the Methodist Church will concentrate its prayers, resources, imagination and commitments on this priority:

To proclaim and affirm its conviction of God’s love in Christ, for us and for all the world; and renew confidence in God’s presence and action in the world and in the Church

As ways towards realising this priority, the Methodist Church will give particular attention to the following:

Underpinning everything we do with God-centred worship and prayer

Supporting community development and action for justice, especially among the most deprived and poor - in Britain and worldwide

Developing confidence in evangelism and in the capacity to speak of God and faith in ways that make sense to all involved

Encouraging fresh ways of being Church

Nurturing a culture in the Church which is people-centred and flexible

We are asked as those within the Methodist Church to underpin everything we with God-centred worship and prayer.  This is an opportunity for us a Circuit to come together and to embrace this, let’s do it!

CIRCUIT SERVICE (EASTER OFFERING)
Muriel Maughan writes

The Dedication Service was at Clowne with the theme “When did I see You?”.  The speaker was Mrs Judith Simms, who spoke about service and how we can serve one another.  Eye witness accounts from around the world were read with visual aids to support them, about how Jesus’ words are put into practice – “As you do it unto others you do it unto Me.”  The Easter Offerings amounted to £718.41.

MUSICAL EVENT AT BARROW HILL
One of the common denominators between many people is a love of music.  Another mutual interest is a love of past memories.  Both these elements are brought together at Barrow Hill in July when a special concert by a classic trio brings back the era of Palm Court music.

An amazing pianist, a great celloist and a man who has been playing the violin seemingly forever along with a talented vocalist bring you music from the shows and some enchanting music from years gone by.  Anyone who enjoys sitting back and loves music that covers all the emotions will not want to miss this event.  Waltzes, Gypsy music, old melodies, tunes from the Musicals and overall, music that conjures up everything from the Old Palm Court Trios.

The event is being sponsored by Anthony Bird in memory of his parents Kath and Ferd.  Both loved music, Kath being a long serving steward and Ferd an active part of the Church.  As a final encouragement, there is a buffet supplied within the price.  Why not book your place now?  The date, Saturday 22nd July starting at 7:30pm.  Tickets are only £6.00 and available from Hazel Wainwright on 01246 270550.

DUCKMANTON’S FLOWER FESTIVAL
This takes place the weekend 24th and 25th June with the theme of memories.  On Saturday 24th the church is open 10:00am to late and on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 with refreshments being served all weekend.

The Revd Peter Cross is preaching at the Flower Service on the Sunday at 6:00pm.

All are welcome.

BRIMINGTON COMMON’S SISTERHOOD RALLY

The speaker on Monday is Revd Betty Tompkins with Hazel Wainwright as organist and items by the Ladies.  This starts at 2:45pm with tea following at a cost of £1.00.

CONCERT AT MOUNT TABOR

On Thursday 20th July, five women representatives from the Methodist Church Sierra Leone will be in the District as they are returning from the World Assembly.  Judith Simms is hosting an AT HOME to give an opportunity to meet them.  This is to be held at Victoria Methodist Church, Stafford Road, Sheffield from 7:00pm.
