BRIMINGTON COMMON – CELEBRATING 140 YEARS!
Yes – we’ve been here 140 years so how do we celebrate?  PRAISE GOD and SERVE GOD – that’s what we’ll do!

We decided to make this special year full of praise and service and it was to be service to the community around us.

So we made a good start in January with a party and fun for the over-sixties.

In February we went to the other end of the scale with a Pancake Party for the local school.  This was held in the school yard at 3:00pm on Pancake Day so included the children, parents and teaching staff- 120 pancakes with a choice of lemon, orange, treacle, jam or sugar were all consumed within fifteen minutes.  A very long skipping rope provided fun for the children followed by pancake tossing races!  So much fun and even more fun with the parents and adult races (Roy Jennings and Gordon Morton still claiming to be number one!)

This brings us to March and it’s PRAISE TIME! – make a note and join us for this time of special celebration:-

BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS WEEK 2007
MARCH 12 TO MARCH 18

Many of you will remember praying for Leslie when he had his accident in 2003.  Although he has recovered well in many ways, his Acquired Brain Injury will always be part of his life, and can affect the way he responds to situations.  We have become very involved in Headway, a charity set up to give help and support to people affected by brain injury.  One of the organisation’s objectives is “To initiate activities and campaigns which will reduce the incidence of brain injury”.

The theme of Brain Injury Awareness Week, promoted by Headway to raise awareness of Acquired Brain Injury, is “It won’t happen to me”.  It’s key message is that brain injury can happen in an instant, can have devastating life-long effects and that young adults should take sensible steps to avoid the risk of injury.

If you want to know more about this event, or about the challenges posed by a head injury please feel free to chat to either Christine or myself.  We would also value your prayers for this week so that people, especially the young, will be aware of how easily brain injuries can occur (you don’t have to crash a jet car to get one) and that other families will not have to face the challenges of caring for a brain injured survivor due to a careless split second action.

OUR VISION
Many of you will remember the Reverend L Norman Holden at Staveley during the early to mid 1960’s.  After my few words last month a booklet published for Staveley Methodist Trinity’s Diamond Jubilee in 1964 has been given to me.  In this the Reverend Holden wrote a short foreword.  Here is a little exert from that.

This foreword is really a salute to adventurers-past, present, and future.

It is a salute to those nameless pioneers who began the work and witness of Methodism in a little unknown cottage long ago.  “Saw ye not the cloud arise, little as the human hand?”  They did!...

…When the brave spirit of Columbus passed beyond the Pillars of Hercules to discover the New World he took his watchword “More beyond.”  The leader of the Pilgrim Fathers discovered in his day “The Lord hath yet more light and truth to break forth from His holy Word.”  So we, too, in this twentieth century, may discover this truth for ourselves.  “Have you on the Lord believed?  Still there’s more to follow.”  In that wonderful phrase from the old Covenant Service we are bidden to “embark with Christ, adventuring ourselves with Him.”  It may mean going out, not knowing whither we go, or where we shall end.  No matter so long as resolve obediently to follow whithersover He goeth.  It is a great thing to be a follower when we have so great a Leader.   Let us but expect great things and attempt great things, then, by His grace, we may achieve great things.

BOLSOVER’S HEALING MINISTRY
Over the past eighteen months a small group of us at Bolsover have been praying about beginning a prayer and healing ministry.  During that time we have been encouraged by the Reverend Peter and Mrs. Rita Edwards.  We have been to some of the healing services they lead at Hollinsend in Sheffield and at the end of January nine of us went to a District training day which they led.

On Saturday 24th February Peter and Rita were with us at Bolsover teaching and sharing with us.  The day ended with a time of ministry in which those who felt called to that work were able to take part.  The Lord blessed us as we saw Him touch lives.

In a time when all we seem to hear about is declining numbers be encouraged.  GOD IS AT WORK through His Holy Spirit.  He wants to do new things in His Church and we at Bolsover are excited.
