Our VisionIs to Aspire … to Inspire… a Desire… in JESUS! The Newsletter of the Bolsover and Staveley CircuitMay 2008 No 80THE HEALING PLACE The Healing Place at Bolsover has been in existence for a year, holding services once a month. All who are involved have been blessed as we see the Lord touch people's lives. A few weeks ago, we were offered rooms in the community house on the Castle Estate. If we accept, it would mean that those living in the area would be able to come for prayer. Please pray that we might have the wisdom to know if this is where the Lord is leading us. Julie Buckley & Barbara Cutts EASTER OFFERING Thank you for your generous giving in the Easter envelopes which amounts to £779.40, and with the collection from the Circuit Service makes a total of £957.90 for World Church funds. It is never too late to add to that amount – our treasurer, Mrs. Muriel Maughan, is always delighted to receive donations, both large and small. Also, thank you to all who participated in our Circuit Service when the Easter Offerings were dedicate. In spite of the weather, there was a full church and we are now trying to follow the theme of 'Making a difference, however small'. GOOD NEWS STORIES From Fishponds Methodist Church, Bristol Why should children be the only ones to enjoy a Holiday Club? That was the thinking behind our decision to run a 'Fun Day for the Elderly' with an activity day and a separate outing. We offered a morning of handicrafts, music, local history, carpet skittles and a session of simple exercises. Then, after lunch together, entertainment and an epilogue drawing the whole day to a close. We later had an outing to the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. Lovely weather, scenery and fellowship. These days have proved to be very successful. We have opened it to those linked in any way to our church and to local ecumenical partners. Most of those who come live alone and enjoy the company as much as the activities. From the Leeds District A team of 14 Street Chaplains, accompanied by the neighbourhood police team, went out onto the streets of Leeds city centre one Friday night, chatting and offering help to the revellers coming out of the pubs and clubs and the taxi drivers and door keepers who work throughout the evening. It was a real step forward in terms of the Church's mission – getting outside our buildings and onto the streets. So much of our work is concerned with the daytime life of Leeds, but this is a project which addressed one of the busiest times in the life of the city. From Lincoln North Circuit The God Pod – our ministry minibus – makes weekly visits to the shopping area in the village of Cherry Willingham and has become part of the local scene. The 'Pod' has allowed us to establish a Church presence in public and every week we stand as witnesses for Jesus, come rain or shine! We help to carry shopping, chat to shop owners, invite people onboard for a hot drink and ask locals if they have any prayer requests. Is it easy being there every week? No! Jesus never said it would be. But he did say, "You will be my witnesses". Why not invite the Pod to your community to find out more... MOODY & SANKEY EVENING Brimington Hall Road offer a warm invitation to a Moody and Sankey Evening on Sunday 11th May at 6:00pm. This is a dramatised evening with Gerald Miller as the narrator, Tony Clarke as Moody and Jonathan Moore as Sankey. There will be opportunity to hear the choir and for congregational participation in favourite hymns from that era. HEALING SERVICES Bolsover hosts the Healing Place on Tuesday 13th May and Tuesday 17th June starting at 7:30pm. Brimington has a Praise and Healing Service on Sunday 18th May starting at 7:30pm. STAVELEY'S OUTING The Men's Breakfast on 17th May is cancelled because of the following outing: We have a few seats left on the Staveley Men's Fellowship outing to Ironbridge Gorge museums on Saturday 17th May. The total cost is £25, including coach fare, entrance fee and tea at Wellington Methodist Church, on the outskirts of Telford. Wednesday June 18th, 12 for 12:30pm at Staveley (This will comprise a 3 course light summer meal and drinks, costing £7.00 and prepared and served by Carlton Caterers.) More details/posters will be available after the Circuit Service, and bookings will be taken from then. Please give your name and money to Jean Morton on or before Sunday June 15th – so that numbers can be passed onto the caterers. Following the lunch we are priviledged to have Mrs. Jennifer Woolf as our speaker. So a very entertaining, interesting and encouraging time will be had by all. The occasion will end no later than 3:15pm. CANDIDATING Thank you for all your prayers and support over the last few months during the candidating process. I have been accepted for pre-ordination training (subject to the Methodist Conference's approval) and this will start in September. Please continue to pray as decisions are made on the format of this training. Nick PREACHING OFFER Gerald and Rita Sawyer have offered to try and fill some of the "own arrangement" services on the Circuit Plan. If, as a church, you have problems with the services, then please contact them because they may be able to help. PIANO FREE TO A GOOD HOME We have a piano, which is looking for a good home. It was bought, for our youngest son, from Mastin Moor Church when it closed. At that time, it was virtually restrung and tuned, but less than six months later he stopped playing. This means the piano has not been played for about four years (so will probably need re-tuning). If anyone can use, or knows someone that can use, the piano it is available to them free of charge. Please contact John Hawkins 01246 811525 on a first come first served basis. CIRCUIT OFFICE The Circuit Office is usually open on Tuesdays (9:15am to 11:15am), Wednesdays (9:30am to 1:00pm) and Fridays (9:15am to 11:15am).
