COLIN’S WELCOME SERVICE
Colin and his family have arrived in Whitwell and as a Circuit we offer them a very warm welcome.  Their Welcome Service takes place at Clowne on Thursday 6th September at 7:30pm, with the preacher being our Chair of District, the Reverend Vernon Marsh.  This is a shared Circuit event between ourselves and the Worksop and Kiveton Circuit.

GOOD NEWS STORIES FROM AROUND THE CONNEXION
From Lincoln

With help from the Bishop, we organised a stall at the local Body Mind and Spirit fair, offering healing prayers for anyone who came. We worked hard to design and decorate the stall, and staffed it, 3 at a time, for 2 days. We had a caravan for privacy if needed, and throughout we felt empowered by the Holy Spirit! At times there was a queue of people waiting to be prayed for. We'll be back at the next fair. Could be done at boot sales too?

From Rugby Methodist Church Centre

Nothing startling, but we reckon we've got a good thing going. Not everyone goes to the local library or bookshop, but we wanted to encourage people to read easy-access Christian books — biography, novels, some ‘study' but mainly ‘lighter' reading, with 20% aimed at children. It cost £500 to start. We have 150 books, and we keep adding — 10 books this month. By word of mouth and notices we've publicised it to groups using the premises. Our congregation browse it after services, and free-access borrowing has worked well.

From Partington, Trafford, Manchester

A follow-up to last month's BUZZ. We've also been creating a garden on what used to be a mess! In partnership with the local housing authority, the council, not to mention guides, brownies, local police and a pub, our garden's into its second season and has just received the Civic Trust Green Pennant Award. The garden's open every day, and we've served tea on Tuesdays during the summer. We want the garden to inspire hope, imagination and further collaboration in the community.

From Chesterton, Cambridge

We've adopted a new pattern of Family Friendly worship on a Sunday morning. We serve a free breakfast at 10am, followed by Sunday School — for adults as well as children. Everyone joins a time of worship at 11am. This is followed by a more trad. sermon and prayers. The style is 'Pick and Mix' as no one's expected to be there all through. The number of children has increased dramatically in a short time, and we're also seeing more of their parents on a regular basis.

“ECHOES FROM THE PAST”

The praise event will be preceded by a tea in the schoolroom (tea is ticket only).  The food offered will reflect the times when Sankey and his friends were writing their hymns and songs.

Further details will be sent to each church nearer the time.

To help with the general atmosphere guests are urged to enter the fun of things and come dressed in costume of the era (you don’t have to go to too much trouble – a long skirt and top and shawl will suffice – don’t forget the hat).
